A thousand Gingko trees – Like a scene from the movies!
As its name implies, “Tarumizu Senbon Ginkgo Garden”, one of the most famous spots in Tarumizu City, is an oasis of beautiful Gingko trees. This “golden paradise” was created by owners, Mr. Chuman and his wife, in 1977. Approximately 1,200 ginkgo trees are planted on the 4.5-hectare site. The Tarumi 1,000 Ginkgo Garden differs from other famous places in that it is originally private land. Yoshiaki Chuman, the current owner of the garden, returned to Tarumizu and reclaimed the dilapidated mountain inherited from his previous generation with his wife. Ginkgo landscaping, which began in 1978, has fascinated locals ever since and now attracts a number of visitors from outside the city. The beauty of the landscape and the tireless efforts of the Chumans was recognized by their receiving the first ever Kagoshima Prefecture Landscape Award.
